This apple was found growing near the 106 building at the historic Glenwood Resource Center (GRC). Opened in 1866 and once known as the Iowa Institution for Feeble-Minded Children, the GRC had its own orchard and greenhouses. Several pear and apple trees can still be found on the campus.
The tree was approximately 30 feet tall and it's exact age is unknown. Sadly, the tree was damaged in a windstorm and cut down in the summer of 2024. Luckily we grafted cuttings from this tree in the spring of 2024 and were able to preserve it.
