Chojuro Pear

Chojuro is an Asian Pear that performs well here in Iowa. It has an orange/brown russet color when fully ripe. It’s crunchy, juicy, and has a rum like background flavor. The sweetness can be variable here in Iowa though. In years with above average rainfall the sweetness can be muted and a little more bland.

Overall, it’s a very nice pear that’s easy to grow in southwest Iowa. It also stores well in the fridge and will stay crunchy for 7 or 8 months if stored in an open zip lock back.

Ripens late August to early September.
